A lot of people fail to reach their full potential in business. Why?

Do this simple exercise:

  1. Make a list of all the reasons that you can think of for this.
  2. Evaluate and rank these reasons. 1st is the most important reason, 2nd being the second most important reason and so on.
  3. After ranking the reasons in order of their importance classify them as internal factors and external factors. Internal factors are those over which people have control like level of confidence, fear, anger etc. whereas external factors are those over which one has no control like government policies etc.
  4. Now review your list after all these steps, in most cases you will find that its the internal factors in your list that are ranked above the external ones. According to Dr. James Fadiman when we get stuck while reaching a goal, it usually isnt because we need to learn a new technique. Rather, its because weve run up against one or more internal barriers. Until we deal with those inner obstacles, all the good intentions, plans and motivational strategies in the world wont be good enough to see us through to our goals.

What Positive thinking can do is help you overcome these internal barriers.

Some years back economic condition was not so good. During this time I went to a function with my father. There we met a couple of his friends in real state business. My father enquired about how their business was. I very well remember the answers of two people because of there contrasting views. One of them complained that the market condition was bad and people did not have money to buy the houses, and that very few enquiries were made and most of them were by people who were not really interested. Then we met another person who, on being asked about the business, replied that the market was weak and so not much sales but it is actually good for business . On being asked why he said that "even though there are no sales, I am meeting a lot of prospective clients." He further said that "because the economy is weak, people have more time and are ready to look at houses during this period. The market is bound to improve sooner or later and these people would buy property then. If it was not for the market these people might not have had time to even look at these properties."

Training focused on knowledge and skills not enough

In todays world a lot of importance is placed on training. Training is useful but if it only focuses on knowledge and skills and neglects the development of proper attitude in trainees, its effectiveness is reduced to a great extent.
