Why does positive thinking work for some people and not for others?

The sucess of positive thinking depends on a couple of factors. These factors can be considered as the pillars of positive thinking concept. If any of these factors are missing then the concept fails. Lets see what these factors are:

DESIRE

Most people find no problem in establishing this pillar in there life.

When trying positive thinking in general, you should have the desire to be positive in life.

When trying positive thinking to improve a particular situation, you should have the desire to improve the same. Here desire does not mean addictive, grasping desire, but a clear, strong feeling or purpose.

BELIEF

One needs to believe in the concept of positive thinking itself and then obviously the more you believe in your chosen goal and the possibility of attaining it, the easier it will be to attain the same. Some people falter here. Its easy to be positive for somethinkg to happen but to believe in its happening is what people find difficult.

ACCEPTANCE

You must not only be willing to accept and have what you are seeking, but also accept that you are responsible for the present circumstances of your life. The base of positive thinking concept is the acceptance that whatever happens in ones' life is a result of his/her thoughts/beliefs. Hence the first step for being positive is the acceptance of complete responsibility for what and where one is in the present. This is the place of factor where a lot of people fail as not many are willing to take the responsibility for what and where they are.

PATIENCE

This is where most people fail. After doing all the work to truely become positive, people want to see quick results without realising that all these years that had been releasing negative emmotions and thoughts, it takes a bit of time to neutralize the past before one creates a present of his/her liking. Initially it might take time depending upon the kind of life one have been living, but once things start happening results can be seen faster and faster.

The some total of the first three factors is what can be called intention. When you have the total intention to create something - i.e. you deeply desire it, you completely believe that you can do it, and you are totally willing to have it and you have the patience for it to happen, it simply cannot fail to manifest, and usually within a very short time.

What are you thinking about right now? The Law of Attraction states that "whatever we think about, we bring about". This law may initially seem like new age fluff but believe it or not, there are scientific merits to this proposition. The top quantum physicists of our time have discovered that our universe and our reality is very much directed by the "observer".
Success starts with a state of mind. Christopher Columbus knew it. Thomas Edison lived it. Michael Dell and Bill Gates believe it. And Marcus Aurelius said it, ""Our life is what our thoughts make of it. A man's true greatness lies in the consciousness of an honest purpose in life, founded on a just estimate of himself."

You may ask why this is so. The formula for this is quite simple.
If you are not as productive as you'd like or tend to procrastinate, you can become motivated by changing your personal style. The trick lies in making the activities you put off more interesting, easier, and less unpleasant. One way to make a job easier is to break it into smaller jobs. If your task is to file your income tax return, you may view it as time consuming and tedious.
A disciple and his teacher were walking through the forest. The disciple was disturbed by the fact that his mind was in constant unrest.

He asked his teacher: "Why most people's minds are restless, and only a few possess a calm mind? What can one do to still the mind?"
Once upon no time, there was a little Soul who said to God, "I know who I am."

And God said, "That's wonderful! Who are you?"
And the Little Soul shouted, "I'm the Light!"
God smiled a big smile. "That's right!" God exclaimed. "You are the Light."

The Little Soul was so happy, for it had figured out what all the souls in the Kingdom were there to figure out.
We create our own reality with our thinking. Something happens and we think about it. What we think determines our reaction and experience. Our experience becomes our reality.

Our minds are always busy making meaning of life events. The problem is that we don't always know we are doing it. Over time this making of meaning becomes automatic and happens outside of awareness. It is automatic because we have practiced it so often.
We all grow older. No one "in their right mind" disputes that. We just began a new year. Marking such beginnings reminds us that we are aging. But how we age varies from person to person and from mind to mind.

Our beliefs about aging play a significant role in how we age. In the late 1970's, Professor Ellen Langer of the Harvard psychology department demonstrated that when 75-year-old men were surrounded for one week by an environment reflecting the year 1959, they reversed many of the characteristics of aging thought to be common and inevitable. Independent judges looked at "before" and "after" pictures and rated the men as three years younger in appearance. Hand measurements showed that their fingers had actually lengthened and gained back some of the flexibility in their joints. The group could sit taller in their chairs, had a stronger hand grip, and could even see and hear better than the control group who had not been exposed to the "20-year earlier environment. "
Because the belief in struggle is so strong in our world, I wanted to share with you a dream I had which helped me to realize struggle was a choice. At the time I had this dream, I was in a great deal of emotional pain. I, like most people, believed I needed to suffer in order to grow. The dream did not change my outside circumstances, but it helped me see my life in a new way.

In my dream, I was in a room with many other people. In the process of moving across the room, we had to crawl through a tunnel filled with bees. It was impossible to accomplish our journey without being stung several times. After I had completed a pass through the first tunnel, I came to a resting place. The people here were recovering from their bites while preparing to enter a second tunnel.

Thought has been the subject of many wonderful books. My earliest exposure to the power of thought was through James Allen's book, As a Man Thinketh. In this little book the author reveals how your thoughts create harmony or chaos in every aspect of life.

The Power Of Affirmations
Affirmations are statements of what you want in your life. Affirmations reflect the spiritual law of perfection everywhere now. They are based on Spiritual Truth not your current experience of life.

Some people have trouble with affirmations because they feel they are not speaking the truth when they use an affirmation. For instance, if you are sick and you say, "I am whole, healthy, and energized," it might feel like a lie; however, affirmations are not the facts of your current situation. They represent the experiences you want to have in your life.
