Exercises to overcome fear

1. Meditation to overcome fear and anxiety

Sit with closed eyes in the early morning. Meditate on courage, the opposite of fear, for half an hour. Think of the advantages of courage and the disadvantages of fear. Practice the virtue during the day. Feel that you actually possess courage to an enormous degree. Manifest it in your daily life. In some weeks or months fear will be replaced by courage. Repeat the formula "Om courage" mentally, daily several times.



2. Affirmations to overcome fear

  1. I am fearless, all-pervading Atman
  2. I am not afraid of anything
  3. Courage is my birthright
  4. I behold the one Atman everywhere Everything is my own Self
  5. Who is to be afraid of whom?
  6. There is no duality for me
  7. I see the non-dual essence only
  8. My will is very powerful now
  9. My power is irresistible
  10. I have no enemy
  11. Enemy, tiger, cobra, are my own Self They cannot do harm to me
  12. I love them as my own Self
  13. I am bold and chivalrous
  14. I am an embodiment of courage

3. Create visualization to overcome fear

Try this following simple visualization to let go of fear and anxiety.

  1. Sitting in a comfortable position for meditation, with a straight back, close your eyes and breathe naturally through our nose.
  2. Then spend a little time identifying what it is you are currently afraid of.
  3. Try to identify your deluded, unhealthy fears, such as the fear of dying, the fear of loss, the fear of failure, and so forth.
  4. Using your wisdom, try to understand that all these fears, and all dangers, arise because of your deluded minds and negative actions.
  5. Then visualize these fears together with their actual causes (negative minds and actions) in the form of dense thick smoke and breathe it out. This smoke leaves our nostrils and disappears to the furthest reaches of space, where it completely disappears, never to return.
  6. As you inhale, imagine you are breathing in all the pure, inspiring energy and fearlessness of all holy beings in the form of blissful white light, which fills our body and mind.
  7. After meditating like this for a while, feel that your body and mind are now completely pure and that we have received the blessings and protection of all holy beings. Your body feels light and supple, and our mind is clear, peaceful, and fearless.
